  2. 2.Could you guess what animal made a sound before you saw it?
  3. 3.What sound did you make that was hardest to guess?

Quick Start: What you need

  • 1Nothing at all. Just go outside and look.

The Goal

Walk around making and guessing animal sounds together.

How to start

  1. 1

No supplies needed. You can start from wherever you are.

  2. 2

Head outside and listen for: a bird chirping, a dog barking, wind in the leaves, your own footsteps.

  3. 3

Talk about what you are seeing. Start with "What was the loudest sound you heard?"

  4. 4

Print the worksheet to check things off as you find them, and keep it afterwards.

Draw Your Favorite Sound

Draw the animal whose sound was the most fun to make.

Owls can turn their heads almost all the way around, but not in a full circle.

If you want to push it further

  • Make an animal sound and have someone guess it
  • Try to walk without making any sound at all for ten steps

Print it and go

The worksheet has the checklist, the prompts, and a space to draw in. One page, ready for a bag or a glovebox.
